Full Name: Kallahan 'Kalli' Benjamin (it's Campbell now! I got married)
Vocation: Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Music tutor, Choir Leader, Worship Leader, Orchestra Director.
Biography:
Kalli attempted to write her first song at about age 10 but has been writting seriously and arranging since 2005.
A gospel singer, songwriter and composer, Kalli has been singing for "as long as she can remember" and playing the piano for almost as long. From an early age she has sung in church; first as a soloist then as a member of the youth choir. Aged 16, she began to pluck up the courage to play the piano and organ for church services and eventually became one of the official musicians on the rota at Croydon SDA church.
In 1999, Kalli joined the all female quartet Perseverance with three of her childhood friends: Serlina, Michelle and Keshia. In the years that followed they sang at churches and venues all over London & ministered at a concert in Brimingham. The group formulated their own unique blend of harmony and a knack for transforming even well known songs in their endeavour to continually lift the name of the Most High. Ken Burton wrote the song "Making Heaven my Home" specifically with them in mind and they performed and recorded it with the ladies of the Croydon SDA Gospel choir.
During this time Kalli was also involved in many other musical projects including performances at St Paul's Cathedral with the group 'Birdsong', being a guest vocalist with the Croydon SDA Gospel choir at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon & the Southbank centre along side the BBC singers, singing with an international mass choir at the Birmingham Symphony Halls and supporting acts for Tim Davis. More recently she has been involved in the Princess Diana concert at Wembley Stadium and done backing vocal recordings for former X factor contestants.
In 2003, the members of Perseverance were invited the join the London Youth Federation praise team. This was the begining of Kalli's emmersion into levitical music ministry, she began to understand the calling on the gifts that God had given her and that ministry extends far beyond the end of the song, but is it be evident in every area of your life. She surrendered herself completely to be used by God for his glory.
As Kalli developed as a music minister she began to be invited the different churches to leader worship and sing special music. It was while leading the praise team at Greenwich SDA church that Kalli met her husband David, a tenor with the praise team and fellow song writer, whom she married in 2009 and now produces her music.
In January 2009 Kalli set up the Croydon SDA orchestra for musicians of all ages. Now she composes for and directs the orchestra, plays piano/organ for special occasions, is recording her first ablum and writting a devotional.
Kalli says, "God has been blessing me with inspiration and messages that I can't just keep to myself. Each song is special and I hope that you not only enjoy them but that they touch your heart".
